Would you want to video chat with your dog while you’re away?
The iCPooch allows dog owners to two-way video chat with their dogs from anywhere in the world, according to its web site. It also allows dog owners to deliver their dogs a treat.
Brooke Martin invented the iCPooch when she was just 12 years old as part of her 8th grade science project, according to a press release. She is now 15.
The product will be featured on the show “Shark Tank” Friday night (March 20), with Martin pitching her product to the investors.

Martin came up with the idea for iCPooch to help reduce anxiety for dogs and to give owners peace of mind knowing they can interact with their dogs while away, the press release said.
The iCPooch connects to your home wireless network, and there are no monthly fees, according to its web site.
In case you were wondering, it does not come with a smartphone or tablet for your dog. You get to provide that yourself. come on now, every dog deserves his own iPad. ?
You can order an iCPooch on Amazon for around $139. It is also available through Bed bath & beyond and through its own web site.
The app itself is free and works with Androids and iPhones.
Do people really want to video chat with their pets?
I think they do.
Some pets would obviously destroy this device pretty fast, but I can see why it would give some pet owners peace of mind.
Personally, I have no interest in “chatting” with my pets through video.
We actually use a product called the Dropcam to check in on our cats while we travel. It’s also terrific for checking on naughty foster dogs left home for short periods. ?
The Dropcam doesn’t have two-way video, but it does allow you to talk to your pet. We tried that once, and it actually seemed to confuse and upset our cats.
Scout started looking for us behind a shelf, and Beamer started meowing mournfully at the door. Het was verschrikkelijk!
Because of that experience, I have no desire to “chat” with my pets through a camera.
Plus, you should see the damage Beamer has done to our automatic pet feeder. That thing has seen better days. He would destroy the iCPooch.
But … I do think it could work well for the right pets.
